West Jefferson Youth Athletic Association


The West Jefferson Youth Athletic Association (WJYAA) is an all-volunteer organization that provides recreation programs for children (ages 3-15) within and surrounding the Jefferson Local School District. The organization is comprised of an Executive Board that oversees all the individual sports' implementation and operations. WJYAA offers the following programs: T-Ball, Baseball, Softball, Football, Cheerleading, Lacrosse, Volleyball, Soccer, Dodgeball and Basketball.

The West Jefferson Youth Athletic Association Board meetings are open to the public; anyone wishing to help or be involved with the youth sports program is encouraged to attend. Monthly meetings are at 6pm on the first (1st) Sunday of each Month. Our next Regular Monthly meeting is Sunday July 12, 2015 at Community Free Will Baptist Church.

The West Jefferson Youth Athletic Association in partnership with The Ohio Machine and Midwest Lacrosse are happy to present MadCo Lacrosse. This will be a program offered for kids grades K-8 to learn how to play lacrosse. Activities will include:
  • Fundamental instruction from pro and college level players and coaches
  • Drills and exercises to enforce those fundamentals
  • Advanced drills for participants with past experience
  • As skills progress, we'll partner kids of the same age/skill levels and compete in game scenarios.
  • Dates -
  • Begins Thursday July 9, then every Tuesday/Thursday through the end of July
Times - 6pm-8pm
Cost - $70 per participant

What's included - Each paying participant will receive a new lacrosse stick, and reversible lacrosse jersey
To participate in any passing drills or games, a helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads and gloves will be required. These can be purchased through Midwest Lacrosse or can be acquired 2nd hand through various sources.
Early bird registrants who register by June 17th will receive a ticket to the Ohio Machine home game on June 20th. Discounted tickets will be available for family members of participants.

This program is available to any girl or boy in Madison County who is interested in learning about or getting better at lacrosse.
Parents and perspective coaches are encouraged to come out and participate.

FOOTBALL& CHEERLEADING SIGN-UPS
The West Jefferson Youth Athletic Association announces football and cheerleading sign-up each Wednesday 6pm-8pm or Saturday 10a-12p at either West Wood Park or Converse Park Concession Stand Through June (when there are baseball games being played).

Some leagues with football or cheerleading divisions have limited slots available for players or participants. We will take sign-ups on a first come first serve basis for those leagues.

Leagues where there are limited slots will be accepted in the order of the actual sign-up was accepted and fees were paid.

WJYAA is a member of the Midwest Youth Football League which participates with other local communities like Madison Plains, London, Plain City and Fairbanks. 

Football: Practices should start around the end of July or beginning of August and games opening day will be at the end of August or beginning of September.

Draft or Evaluations will take place around the second week of July. Specific dates will be announced on the website as the organizers make definite plans for the season.

We will provide each player with a helmet, shoulder pads, a pair of socks, first mouth guard. Parent’s responsibility to purchase pants with pads (white), cleats and protective cup or if they want their own helmet.

Make sure you subscribe to our mass email system to be informed of all dates or details of football.   

Cheerleading: There will be a uniform fitting day by the middle of July all participants who orders a new uniform will be summoned to attend a uniform fitting.

Those that do not purchase a uniform should make sure it fits properly. If you already have a uniform you will not need to purchase one. If  cheerleaders have sibling football players be sure to list that on the form. Otherwise cheer commissioner and organization leaders will draft teams so list all pertinent details on the sign-up form.

WJYAA will supply all cheerleaders with a Turtleneck, bow/hair ribbon, spankies and socks.
Cheerleaders may purchase a team warm-up on their own for around $45 or other items for the annual pink event. Make sure you subscribe to our mass email system to be informed of all dates or details of football.

Be sure to indicate on the registration form that you wish to volunteer to coach, be a cheer commissioner, be an assistant coach, sponsor a team, work in the concession stand, help us in other areas or are interested in making another donation to the West Jefferson Youth Athletic Association all donations are tax deductible please contact John Stanley at 614-940-9521.
